Who Am I?
My name is Terence Candell. I was born and raised in Oakland and have lived here all my life, I am one of the 10 children raised by
Shirley Etter, raised largely without a father in a highly dysfunctional family.
Still, I knew that if I used my God-given intelligence, I could make things better. If I loved hard enough, I could make things better. I love
it here. So, I can make it better.
I have used this approach my entire adult life, with my wife, Dyra, who I love so very much. who was raised here; with the angel from
heaven I am proud to call my daughter, Dyra the second, who has special needs and has taught me a different kind of love without
measure; and with my genius son, the youngest in history to graduate from Cal State East Bay and the youngest African American to
graduate from a university in the history of the United States at 14, and who demonstrates for me daily what love a man can be! Both of
my children were born and are being raised in Oakland.
Oakland is a beautiful and an enjoyable city. However, there are those who do not want to enjoy this city, but wish to destroy it. There are
other cities for them. This one isn't it. Please leave. For those of us who wish to stay, who wish to enjoy the privilege of living in our city,
what can we do?
Work with me. We must work to restore Oakland to the greatness we once enjoyed! We must take very specific steps, which embrace
social and economic opportunity for our youth and for our seniors!

about politicians coming in from
state and federal jobs just to stay
employed in politics, with no real
interest in improving conditions
in Oakland. I want to continue to
improve our city. I want you to
help. Many of us would like to
think we could do it alone; but, I
am under no such delusions.

serious issue. I want to help.

I will provide a brighter future for our youth, and a safer and enjoyable city for the elderly, disabled,
disadvantaged and even the advantaged citizens of the City of Oakland. I will create a functional and
profitable marriage between business and the city. As your mayor, Oakland can and will be a better place:
Let's leave a better legacy for our children and young adults! Let's provide them with opportunities and
activities of which they have been deprived for the last twenty years! It's about time!
I will provide a brighter future for our youth, and a safer and enjoyable city for the elderly, disabled,
disadvantaged and even the advantaged citizens of the City of Oakland. I will create a functional and

Oakland's own, Terence Candell, continues to have his finger on
the pulse of the community, feeding the masses, receiving the
largest ovations and receiving support from over 400 of
Oakland's church congregations. He continues to wow the
crowds with his platform and political savvy at the Mayoral
Forums and is an overwhelming favorite with the youth, with this
March against gun violence, which began with scores of people
and drew scores more during the march, as well as spending
hours talking to one million youth listeners at KMEL Radio,
convincing them to stay off of the streets, the day of the
unfavorable Oscar Grant verdict. The Oakland community calls
him, "The People's Mayor."
